Question 1

What is the GDPR Giraffe?

Accepted Answer

An AI agent for data protection tasks. You describe what you need in the chat, the giraffe asks follow-up questions, works through a plan and produces a document, such as a privacy notice, a data processing agreement or a data protection concept.

Question 2

Isn't this just a ChatGPT wrapper?

Accepted Answer

The giraffe uses language models from third-party providers. The difference lies in what the model is given to work with: comprehensive lawyer-drafted templates, instructions (skills), defined review steps and a dedicated workspace in which all documents and interim results are kept in a structured way for later work.

Question 3

How reliable are the results?

Accepted Answer

The templates and workflows are based on many years of experience as a lawyer. But it is and remains AI: a result can look convincing and still contain errors. As a rule, however, it is better than the result of your own prompts or of doing without any expert knowledge.

Question 4

Is this legal advice?

Accepted Answer

No. matterius GmbH is not a law firm, and the giraffe does not replace a lawyer's review of the individual case. Details are in the terms and conditions.

Question 5

Can the giraffe only handle the listed use cases?

Accepted Answer

No. The use cases are typical examples with their own templates. The giraffe handles other data protection questions as well. The use cases are continuously developed, maintained and optimised.

Question 6

What does it cost?

Accepted Answer

The free account runs for 30 days and includes a one-time starting balance. After that there are the Starter and Pro plans, billed monthly or yearly, yearly at a lower monthly price. All prices are net and listed on the pricing page.

Question 7

What are credits?

Accepted Answer

Credits are the balance for the giraffe's work. Every request consumes credits, depending on computing effort, context and the AI model used. Paid plans receive a new allowance every month; unused credits expire at the end of the month.

Question 8

What happens when my credits are used up?

Accepted Answer

The request in progress is still completed. Further requests are only possible again in the next month or after switching to a higher plan.

Question 9

What is a work result, and do I have to pay extra for it?

Accepted Answer

A work result is the finished document at the end of a task. Without unlocking it you see a preview with partly obscured text. In the free account you buy work results individually, the Starter plan includes three per month, the Pro plan all of them. You download an unlocked document as a Word, PDF or text file.

Question 10

How long does a subscription run, and how do I cancel?

Accepted Answer

A subscription runs for a month or a year and renews until you cancel. You cancel in the customer portal, effective at the end of the paid period. The free account ends after 30 days.

Question 11

What happens at the end of the term?

Accepted Answer

At the end of the term (30 days for the free account, for a subscription the end of the cancelled period) we delete the account with all chats, documents and work results. Download your documents in good time.

Question 12

Is my data used to train AI models?

Accepted Answer

No. We only use models whose providers have committed not to use inputs for training and not to store them permanently. The only exception regarding storage is web search: the provider used for it does not guarantee immediate deletion; the ban on training applies there too. That provider only receives search queries, however. More in the privacy policy.

Question 13

May I upload personal data and confidential documents?

Accepted Answer

A data processing agreement is part of the terms and conditions. Every account works in its own environment, separated from other accounts. Whether you may hand certain documents to a cloud service is for you to decide. If you upload client information as a lawyer, you may need your client's consent.

Question 14

How long is my data stored?

Accepted Answer

Until the end of the term of your account. Chats are deleted 30 days after their last activity already; work results, information needed later and uploaded documents in the workspace are not affected by that.

Question 15

What rights do I get in the results?

Accepted Answer

You may use, copy and edit the results for an unlimited time for your own business purposes and those of your affiliated companies, including after the contract ends. If you advise third parties professionally, for example as an external data protection officer, you may also use the results for your clients and pass them on to them. Details are in the terms and conditions.

Question 16

Where is my data stored?

Accepted Answer

Largely in the EU: the application and database run in Frankfurt am Main, the working environments in Paris. Most of our service providers are US companies, however, and processing by AI models may also take place outside the EU. For transfers to third countries the safeguards required by the GDPR are in place (EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses). The service providers and details are listed in the data processing agreement, an annex to the terms and conditions.
